Memories of Clive

Created by Joanne one year ago
I met Clive back in 1991 when i started as a demonstrator technician at Salford Uni. He was in charge of 3D sculpture & woodwork and I was Media tech. Clive immediately made me feel at ease, we clicked, and we hung out together for the next 4 years, putting the world to rights & fighting the power! Clive had so many brilliant funny stories from the past, about what he got up to in the 60’s and 70’s!. We spent many hours in the caretakers staff room and talked politics A LOT with the reign of Thatcher succeeded by John Major. We had much to get angry about!. We were active members of Unison and got involved with anything we didn't feel was right or just. Towards the time of leaving Salford Uni Clive had come very close to tracking down long lost family members in the U.S. and he eventually found them in Georgia. Our lives moved in parallel from then on. I moved to Hong Kong and Clive, Dianne, Karla & Callum moved over to Georgia.

We always kept in touch and would have lengthy chats on the phone about what we’d been up to, music, art and politics. Clive was incredibly proud of Karla & Callum. His kids were everything. And what wonderful creative adults they have become. I needn’t tell you Clive & Diane are both very talented artists. Clive always creating sculptures and 3 dimensional pieces. He was also a brilliant chef! I remember him giving me the recipe and very precise instructions for Bara Brith and going into great details about the soaking overnight in tea, he was very passionate about his cooking techniques!.

With us both bringing our family’s up overseas we had a lot in common even when apart, even discussing our visits to DIY stores in our respective countries and the trials and tribulations of asking for a ‘faucet’! Or ‘tap’ as we called it.

By sheer coincidence we both returned to the UK around the same time in the mid noughties reunited our friendship and got together on many family occasions. Both our families spending lots of very funny and happy times together. There was always so much laughter, music and discussions over a meal and a few drinks.
We are all devastated and can’t quite process the speed of Clive's passing, I really wish I could have that one final hour of chat on the phone with him.

Sending much love and hugs to all the family, Diane, Karla & Callum we know how much you will miss your dad, he was larger than life and will leave a big hole in everyone's hearts.
Love Jo, Tim, Rio & Jae. xxxx
